CAT Leads £1.5m Wales Climate Action Project

A new nationwide climate action project, named ‘Troi’r Llanw / Turning the Tide’, has been launched across Wales, spearheaded by the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) near Machynlleth. The initiative was officially unveiled on World Environment Day, Friday, and is backed by significant funding from The National Lottery Community Fund.
CAT, a renowned organisation dedicated to sustainable living and technology, will lead the three-year project. The substantial grant of £1,499,800 from The National Lottery Community Fund represents a major investment in tackling climate change at a grassroots level within Wales. This is the UK's largest community funder, and their support underscores the importance of community-led solutions.
’Troi’r Llanw / Turning the Tide’ aims to empower communities across Wales to take meaningful action on climate change. While specifics of the project’s activities are not detailed in the initial announcement, the involvement of CAT suggests a focus on practical solutions, renewable energy, sustainable building practices, and reducing environmental impact. The project builds on CAT’s existing expertise in demonstrating sustainable lifestyles and providing educational resources.
The launch on World Environment Day highlights the urgency of addressing climate change and the role that local initiatives play in creating a more sustainable future for Wales. The National Lottery Community Fund’s investment signals a commitment to supporting projects that make a real difference in local communities, fostering resilience and promoting environmentally responsible behaviours.
